Wounded Upstate NY Police Chief Released From Hospital

MAYBROOK, N.Y. (AP) — A New York police chief has been released from a hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound suffered while responding to a domestic dispute in an upstate apartment.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (http://bit.ly/2rugcN5 ) Town of Montgomery Police Chief Arnold "Butch" Amthor was released Wednesday from the hospital in Newburgh.

Amthor was shot in the shoulder Tuesday morning while he and four other officers responded to a disturbance in the village of Maybrook, where he's also police chief. Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler says 28-year-old Anthony Bostick shot Amthor, then was killed when police returned fire.

The shooting occurred in Bostick's apartment in Maybrook, 55 miles north of New York City.

Amthor is expected to make a full recovery.

Police surrounded the home for several hours after the shooting before going in and finding Bostick dead.
