The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team will play a tripleheader at Murnane Field in Utica on Saturday.

Joshua Wege and Brent Nadjadi joined the Keeler in the Morning Show on WIBX Friday ahead of this weekend's games against a teams representing local law enforcement, first responders and representatives of Adirondack Bank.

The team is comprised of US veterans injured in the service.

Wege, a 27-year-old Wisconsin native, was injured when he was just 19 in Afghanistan. ''Our vehicle rolled over a 200-pound IED,'' Wege says. ''Things happen. It was my first tour and I was about six months in.''

Nadjadi - of Bath, NY - has a similar story. In 2010, in Afghanistan, he was in a vehicle that struck and IED. His job was to clear roadways and paths of bombs. ''There's only some many times you can test fate,'' he says, ''and it caught up to us.''

Wege explains the team started about six years ago and was intended to a be a fun softball camp for veterans as they were getting out of the hospital. But, it became a traveling league that serves as an inspiration for all, especially child amputees.

The money they raise funds a kids amputee camp - more here.

''I went back to Bath. There's not much in Bath, this was huge for me,'' Nadjadi said.

''It's probably one of the best blessings that I've got since getting injured and becoming an amputee is finding this team. It's filled a huge void in my life,'' Nadjadi said

On Saturday, the team will play three, five-inning games beginning at 1:00. Admission is $5, or $2 with a donation of a non-perishable food item. Kids 10 and under are free.
