Syracuse, NY (WIBX) - The sheriff's deputy shot and killed during a domestic dispute last June, was posthumously honored for his heroism at a ceremony in Syracuse this week. According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol, The Central New York Association of Chiefs of Police named Sheriff's Deputy Kurt B. Wyman the recipient of the Heroic Action Award.

The award was accepted by Wyman's father, Brian and Sheriff Maciol. The domestic dispute last June in the Town of Augusta, led to a 6-hour stand-off with the man accused of firing the fatal shot that claimed Wyman's life. Wyman's widow, Lauren, gave birth to their second child, 18-hours after he was killed. Christian Patterson was subsequently charged, tried and convicted for the crime in Oneida Count Court. He was sentenced to life in prison by Judge Barry Donalty.
