ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The New York Yankees, the Adirondack Mountain Club and a western New York landfill are among eight winners of the state's annual environmental awards.

The Department of Environmental Conservation praised the Yankees for energy efficiency, recycling and composting programs. The agency also commended the Yankees for donating more than 125,000 pounds of unserved food to homeless shelters and other charities.

The Adirondack Mountain Club was honored for its High Peaks Steward program that protects fragile alpine habitat.

Waste Management's High Acres Landfill in Monroe County was honored for accepting New York City trash by train, reducing carbon emissions from trucks.

The 13th annual Environmental Excellence Awards were announced on Tuesday.
