Yankees Thump Red Sox, Retake AL East Lead

The Yankees offense picked up where is left off on Sunday, thumping the Red Sox for 13 hits and 10 runs in a 10-2 win, snagging a one game lead over the Orioles for the AL East division lead.

New York clubbed three home runs in the second, part of a nine run inning, including back-to-back shots from Curtis Granderson (41) and Russell Martin (21).

Mark Teixeira homered in his return to the lineup after missing the last three weeks (calf).

Robinson Cano hit his 31st dinger, part of a three hit, three RBI night. Nick Swisher also added three hits to back a strong outing for C.C. Sabathia.

Sabathia (15-4) struck out seven over eight innings of four-hit, two-run ball.

Baltimore's loss to Tampa Bay gives the pinstripes a one game division lead with two to play. Both the Yanks and O's have clinched playoff births.
