The New York Yankees have a new third baseman after making a trade with the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.

The Bronx Bombers get Chase Headley in the deal, after sending infielder Yangervis Solarte and pitcher Rafael Paula to the Padres.

The Yanks will also get cash as part of the trade.

Headley is batting .229 with seven home runs and 32 RBI in 77 games this season.

Solarte won the starting job in New York during spring training, but a poor showing in June and a trip to the minors in July made him expendable.

De Paula went 6-5 with Single-A Tampa with an ERA of 4.15 over 20 games.

This is the second trade for the Yankees this month, after acquiring pitcher Brandon McCarthy from Arizona to help prop up their injury-plagued rotation.
