Albany, NY (WIBX) - Governor Andrew Cuomo wants to keep New York State's recent yogurt boom going.

At the state's first "Yogurt Summit" in Albany, the governor announced plans to loosen restrictions on New York dairy farmers to boost milk production to keep the yogurt industry going.

Farmers had been complaining recently that costly permits for large numbers of cows were keeping them from keeping up with the demands from yogurt factories for milk.

Cuomo says the recent yogurt boom in upstate New York is one of the "best private-sector market opportunities upstate New York has had in 30 to 40 years."

State Senator James Seward attended yesterday's "Yogurt Summit."
