Vernon, NY (WIBX) - If your child likes to work with horses, Vernon Downs may be the place to go this summer.

The horse track is hosting a five-day overnight harness horse camp sponsored by the Harness Horse Youth Foundation (HHYF). The event hosted by Vernon Downs is only one of ten camps across the country that the group is organizing.

Starting July 12th, campers will work hands-on with Trottingbred horses, a unique type of horse that is bred to be small but quick. Attendees will cover a wide range of topics including equipment, care and grooming, conformation, history, lameness, stable management and equine careers. The camp will end on July 16th, featuring exhibitions by everyone participating.

The HHYF camp is open to all kids between the ages of 12 and 14. The cost to attend the camp is $150, but includes overnight lodging at the Vernon Downs Hotel, food and camp materials.
