Utica, NY (WIBX) - Survivor Margarita Cuevas Cruz who, along with representatives of law enforcement and community organizations, met today at the Utica YWCA and paid a moving tribute to end child abuse and sexual assault in New York State.

April is Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Oneida County Undersheriff Robert Swenszkowski says that this topic continues to be important not only to the victims but to community leaders as well because it is something that lasts with the victims for their entire lives.

Both Oneida and Herkimer Counties were represented. According to County Social Services Commissioner Lucille Soldato, Oneida County alone received more than 4,400 child abuse calls last year and the numbers are growing and reaching every sector of the community.
