Utica, NY (WIBX) - Current West Utica Councilman Jim Zecca has the backing of the Conservative Party in his run for one of the city's three at-large council seats.

Zecca, a Democrat, initially planned to run for council president, saying he would force a Democratic primary against incumbent William Morehouse.

Instead, Zecca now plans to petition for a primary election to secure the Democrat line on election day. The city's Democratic committee has already thrown its support behind incumbents Ed Bucciero and Jerry Kraus, along with former councilman Frank Meola.
