Two men are facing multiple charges after allegedly trying to steal from the Oneida Wal Mart.

Oneida City Police say Steven Smith, 54, of Fort Plain ran through the parking lot to a waiting car driven by Janson Magnuson, 32, of Connecticut.

As an officer tried to stop the two men, they hit the police car causing damage, then continued across the grass onto Genesee Street.

The men then led police on a chase that ended in Canastota where they fled their car on foot before they were caught.

A search of their vehicle found about $3,000 in merchandise.

Magnuson was charged with Petit Larceny, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment, Resisting Arrest, Conspiracy, Fleeing an officer in a Motor Vehicle and Leaving the Scene of Property Damage by a Motor Vehicle Accident.

Smith was charged with Petit Larceny, Conspiracy and Resisting Arrest.

Both men were sent to the Madison County Jail and will appear in court on a later date.

The investigation is continuing and more charges may be filed.
