As reconstruction of the North-South Arterial in Utica continues, a new exit ramp will open today.

In addition to the new ramp from State Routes 5, 8, and 12 north, known in Utica as "The Arterial," Court Street will partially re-open this afternoon, with one lane in each direction accessible to drivers sometime, the NYSDOT's James Piccola says, between 3:00pm and 5:00pm on Friday, November 20, 2015.

New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Matthew J. Driscoll said, "Reopening Court Street and the new ramp brings us one step closer to realizer a safer, more modern North-South Arterial for Utica."

Construction along the Court Street interchange will continue in the spring.  According to a written release from the NYSDOT:

"A Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) will be contruced to all all traffic exiting and entering the arterial to be controlled by a single set of traffic signals.

Next month demolition of the old viaduct will begin and continue through early spring 2016.  The majority of the demolition will take place during the evening hours in order to minimize impacts to the traveling public."

Drivers are reminded to continue to use extra caution in the area as work is ongoing and traffic patterns continue to change as construction takes place.
