Living in Upstate New York with the Erie Canal a major part of our landscape, you likely drive over the Erie Canal multiple times each day without giving it a second thought. There is one place in New York where you can drive under the canal.

Located in Medina along the aptly named Culvert Road, there is a cut below the Erie Canal. The road is Orleans County Route 35 and can be reached from Route 31 just east of Medina or Route 104 near Oak Orchard.

Before you go, make sure your vehicle won't get stuck. The clearance is just 7 feet 6 inches.

Roadside America says the tunnel is so deep it's hard to see from the road ahead and the rock above you is enough to lose radio reception.
