Farm Water Projects Program Turns 25, Offers $15M In Funding

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Another $15 million in state funding is available for agricultural water projects across New York as the program marks its 25th anniversary.

The state has appropriated nearly $220 million to the Agricultural Nonpoint Source Abatement and Control Program since it was started in 1994 during the administration of Gov. Mario Cuomo, father of the current governor.

Funding from the program helps farmers plan and manage systems designed to handle waste storage and protect local water resources.

The program is funded through the $300 million state Environmental Protection Fund.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the water projects program supports New York farmers who "produce some of the best products in the nation while also protecting our waterways."
