The average nationwide price for a gallon of gas is the lowest it's been since February of 2009.

Ed Welsh of AAA Central New York says thanks to tumbling crude oil prices, retail gas prices have fallen 70 of the last 74 days to a national average of $1.82 a gallon.

Welsh says New York State has one of the highest average prices in the country at $2.09 a gallon.  In the Utica-Rome area, the average price is $2.14.

But Welsh says prices are continuing to fall and he expects the entire state will be below $2 within the next month.

Welsh says there are 39 states with average prices under $2 a gallon.

The state with the cheapest gas in the nation is Oklahoma at $1.53 a gallon.
