Rome, NY (WIBX) - Senator Joe Griffo says he's disappointed with the Governor's decision to close the Oneida Correctional Facility.

Griffo says he'll work to do everything possible to keep the 500 jobs at the prison in Rome within the area and to ensure the community has all the possible support and assistance in developing a re-use plan for the facility and an economic transition plan for the region.

Griffo says a meeting will be held sometime next week among state and local officials to discuss and coordinate the next steps.

Meanwhile, Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney is blasting the Governor's decision to close the Oneida Correctional Facility.

Tenney says the decision is incredibly discouraging because the state has already invested in the area by placing food and pharamacy servcies for the entire prison system in Rome.

She's calling for consolidation of all other prison services here instead of closing one of the facility.

Tenney says the region is centrally located and could provide an excellent cost-saving base to serve the state prison system.
