Upstate New York’s Top 25 Most Popular Jobs And What They Pay

Job options are on the rise in Utica, Rome, Central New York, and the Mohawk Valley. What are the most popular jobs? With that, what is the pay?

New York State is divided into 62 counties (five of which are boroughs of New York City). Within these counties are 62 cities (including New York City), 933 towns, 533 villages and 690 school districts. That means there's a lot of people, and a lot of job opportunities.

In February 2020, the longest economic expansion in recorded history ended and the national economy went into recession, with real gross domestic product decreasing by 5.0 percent in the first quarter of 2020 and more sharply by 31.4 percent in the second quarter as limits on economic activity were established. As these restrictions eased, real GDP rebounded in the second half of the year."

2022 has come and gone. One consistent theme seen all over our region, jobs are coming back. There have been hundreds of job posts as businesses recover from the COVID 19 pandemic. Our station has hosted tons of CNY Online Job Fairs for this too.

When people are choosing work, what careers are they landing in? Did people take time over the last few years to re-evaluate their passions and jobs? What jobs seem to be the most popular? What jobs have the best pay?

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has all sorts of data to answer these questions. Through looking at data, they were able to determine the most popular employment options, median hourly wage, mean hourly wage, and annual mean wage. Through this, we wanted to highlight the Top 25 jobs in our region.
