
9 New York Firefighters to Be Honored at National Memorial Weekend
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) will host the 44th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend on May 3-4, 2025, in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
This National tribute will honor 70 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2024 and 70 firefighters who died in previous years, making sure that their sacrifice is remembered by the nation.
Nine New York Firefighters to Be Honored
Among those being memorialized are nine brave firefighters from New York whose service and sacrifice made a lasting impact on their communities:
Firefighter Robert R. Boire, 64, Cumberland Head Fire Department. Died December 27, 2024, from a heart attack at a motor vehicle accident scene.
Firefighter Daniel S. DeWolf, 52, Fairville Volunteer Fire Department. Died January 21, 2024, of a heart attack while operating at a residential structure fire.
Firefighter Niel G. Frazier, 68, Ellington Volunteer Fire Department. Died September 5, 2021, from complications of COVID-19.
Firefighter Deo Lall Jr., 38, Fire Department City of New York. Died March 27, 2024, from cancer complications.
Firefighter Roderick John MacLeod, 67, New Hackensack Fire District. Died January 28, 2024, after responding to a mutual aid call.
Assistant Chief Nicholas J. Morosco, 38, Yorkville Fire Department. Died August 27, 2024, following multiple emergency responses and training.
Firefighter Romano Petrucco, 53, Homer Fire Department. Died October 9, 1981, of a heart attack while operating at a fuel spill.
Supervising Fire Marshal George E. Snyder Jr., 53, Fire Department City of New York. Died August 10, 2024, from a heart attack while investigating a fire.
Deputy Chief Thomas J. Wutz Sr., 74. Died July 15, 2023, from an illness related to his response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Remembering Their Extraordinary Courage
“This weekend is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary courage and commitment of those who put their lives on the line to protect others,” said Troy Markel, Chair of the NFFF Board of Directors. “We come together not only to remember the fallen but to stand in solidarity with their families and departments, letting them know their loved ones will never be forgotten.”
Victor Stagnaro, CEO of the NFFF, emphasized, “Each of these 140 firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others, a profound sacrifice that defines true heroism.”
Public Events at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Park
Two major public events will take place at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Park on the grounds of the National Emergency Training Center (NETC) during Memorial Weekend:
National Fallen Firefighters Candlelight Service: Friday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m., hosted by Fire Captain Garon Mosby of the St. Louis Fire Department.
National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service: Saturday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m., hosted by actor Jeremy Holm.
Both services will be live-streamed on the NFFF’s website, YouTube channel, and Facebook page. Streaming will begin 30 minutes before each event.

Special Support for Families and Departments
Beyond the public ceremonies, special activities are planned exclusively for the families and departments of the honored firefighters. These include small group sessions, remembrance activities, and opportunities to connect with others who share the experience of loss and pride in their heroes’ sacrifice.
