War Hero From Upstate New York Gets Military’s Highest Award

President Biden will honor a war hero from Upstate New York who saved at least 10 soldiers in the Korean War during a small ceremony Friday for Medal of Honor recipients.
The Medal of Honor is the Nation's highest military award to recognize American soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, guardians, and coastguardsmen who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor.

Bonafide War Hero to be Recognized
According to Syracuse.com, Army Pfc. Charles R. Johnson, from Millbrook, N.Y.(one hour and 20 minutes south of Albany, will be part of a small group of Medal of Honor recipients that will be recognized Friday by President Joe Biden.
Johnson has a litany of heroic awards from his military service. Still, he could not be given the Medal of Honor due to the statute of limitations stating the award must be provided within five years of the action. However, local lawmakers passed legislation that allowed him to be recognized.

ABMC.gov reports that Corporal Johnson, a medic with the Medical Company attached to Company B, 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, was killed in action "while rendering aid to his comrades near Sanae-Dong, South Korea, on May 29, 1953."
"Although nearly blinded by mortar fragments, he continued to aid his comrades until he was mortally wounded. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial," the report says.
