The NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup circles hits Loudon, New Hampshire today with the Sylvania 300 on WIBX 950.

Matt Newman, currently eighth in the Chase standings, won the pole on Friday with a pair of record setting laps at the track.

After Kasey Kahne set a new track record in qualifying, NASCAR.com reports Newman beat Kahne, then on the next lap, beat himself:

To be exact, Newman toured the Magic Mile in 27.904 seconds (136.497 mph) to shatter the mark of 135.922 mph established by Brad Keselowski in July. Kahne (136.082 mph) and third-place qualifier Jeff Gordon (136.063 mph) also beat the previous record.
