Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol is urging victims of domestic violence who have been granted orders of protection in Oneida County Family Court to register with SAVIN-NY.
SAVIN is a program that allows victims of domestic violence to be alerted when orders of protection are served to an abuser.

Maciol says the time immediately following the service of orders of protection can be dangerous for victims.

"When a family court order of protection is served on an abuser, ensuring that the victim is notified in a timely manner could be critical for their safety and for effective enforcement of the order," Maciol said.

Oneida County residents can register online to receive SAVIN alerts on the nyalert website.

Individuals who may not want to receive alerts also have the option to log on to the system to check whether orders of protection are served.

Maciol added that the YWCA on 1000 Cornelia Street in Utica is also available to assist domestic violence victims.
