Man Leads Police On Chase Through NY Towns, Crashes

NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — A 19-year-old man has been charged with leading police on a chase through several towns before crashing near one of the guarded entrances to the U.S. Military Academy.

Police in the Orange County city of Newburgh say an officer attempted to stop a car that was being driven erratically around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday. Officials say the driver, identified as Shaheem Seda, of Newburgh, drove north on Route 9W for about five miles to the town of Marlborough in neighboring Orange County, where he turned around and headed back south.

Authorities say Seda drove through the towns of New Windsor, Cornwall and Highlands, where he crashed while attempting to exit the road near West Point's Stony Lonesome Gate.

The charges against Seda include reckless endangerment and fleeing a police officer. It couldn't be determined if he has a lawyer.
