WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A New York man who stabbed his girlfriend in the neck and tried to stab her son in the heart last year has been sentenced to three decades in state prison.

The Journal News reports (http://lohud.us/2efIh8o ) the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced on Friday Bairon Farez Llanos of White Plains has been placed into the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections.

A jury convicted Llanos of attempted murder and related charges in the July 2015 attack.

Prosecutors say Llanos grabbed his girlfriend by her ears until they bled. He then stabbed her several times.

Authorities say the son tried to protect his mother. Llanos got on top of him and tried to stab him in the heart. He deflected the knife and suffered a chest cut.
