SPRINGWATER, N.Y. (AP) — A new walking trail is opening in pristine forest land between Hemlock and Canadice lakes, the last two undeveloped Finger Lakes.

The trail was developed by the Nature Conservancy in partnership with other groups. It starts on land owned by the conservancy in the town of Springwater and continues into the 6,800-acre Hemlock-Canadice State Forest, which protects water quality in the two lakes which supply Rochester's drinking water.

The lakes are 20 miles south of Rochester in Livingston and Ontario counties.

The trail winds through woods, meadows and steep gullies before arriving on the shore of Hemlock Lake. Inaugural hikes for the public are planned Saturday morning starting at 10:30.
