SPAFFORD, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 3-year-old central New York girl has been found safe after she wandered away from a neighbor's house with her family's two dogs.

State police say troopers responded late Tuesday morning to a report for a missing 3-year-old child in the Onondaga County town of Spafford, 15 miles southwest of Syracuse.

Police learned that Taylor Kilts was with her mother at a neighbor's house when she wandered off with her family's pets.

Police launched a search that included a helicopter, but their effort was made difficult by the heavily wooded and swampy terrain in the area.

About five hours after the search began, a neighbor spotted the toddler walking out of the woods with the dogs. Police took the girl back to the family's home, where she was checked out by medics.
