Utica, NY (WIBX) - If you don't know what to do during an emergency situation, now may be your chance to learn.
The Oneida County Health Department is hosting a free Disaster Preparedness Workshop on July 19th, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.,  at the Resource Center for Independent Living in Utica.

Attendees will learn about possible disaster risks in our area, how to handle special circumstances and how to build an emergency kit. The entire exercise takes about 20 minutes.

The first 300 households to attend will also receive a starter emergency kit, containing a hand-crank weather radio, first-aid kit and water container, along with other important materials, such as a waterproof document holder.

Though the workshop is offered at no cost, pre-registration is required. To sign up, click here.

Materials are provided by the Utica and Rome Salvation Army, American Red Cross, and the Herkimer-Oneida Organizations Active in Disasters group.  Members of the County Health Emergency Response Plan committee will also be available to help.
