Prison guard strike fallout continues across New York as the union for correction officers has requested an urgent meeting with state officials to address problems like low staffing levels and unsafe work conditions.
County officials in Upstate New York have issued a statement stating that it's open to hiring New York correction officers who were fired during the statewide strike in February and March.
This suspended visitation also applies to family reunion programs. However, legal visits will not be impacted by this visitation suspension, officials say.
The New York State Department of Corrections says escaped killer David Sweat has been discharged from the infirmary at the Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus and will be housed in the prison's Special Housing Unit.
