LANCASTER, N.Y. (AP) — The debate over a suburban Buffalo high school's Redskins nickname drew a crowd of several hundred for a public forum on the issue.
The Oneida Indian Nation is advertising in advance of Monday night's Washington Redskins season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, asking he public to urge NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the Redskins to change their name.
The Oneida Nation is scheduled to present a check to the Cooperstown Central School District this week to deliver on a promise made when the district was considering changing its mascot.
Lawmakers in Washington, DC are debating a bill that would eliminate "Redskins" as the NFL team's name.
A spokesman for the Washington Redskins says the team has no comment.
