UPDATE: Arrest Made in Case of Dog Allegedly Burned By Chemical
While the victim recovers, police say they have arrested the man whom they believe burned a pit bull in Utica last week.
51-Year-old Gary Odell of Utica is being charged with a felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty and a misdemeanor charge of torturing and injuring animals.
According to a written release SPCA investigators "believe the suspect poured a caustic liquid on the puppy's back causing an 8" x 8" burn and loss of fur."
Authorities say the dog's condition has improved after initial treatment. The ten-month-old puppy has been renamed "Tommy" and is now being cared for by the SPCA. It is hoped that he will be rehabilitated and eventually offered for adoption.
Utica Police say that they acted on several tips during their investigation that led to today's arrest of Odell.
