Utica Police Chief Mark Williams is publicly thanking several UPD officers for helping save a man's life.

Police were called to a home on Tilden Avenue earlier this week for a report of a barricaded man.

When officers arrived, they learned an emotionally disturbed man who was suffering from depression and armed with a knife, had poured gasoline on his body and was threatening kill himself.

The officers eventually managed to talk the man out of the home.  He was later taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Williams wanted to acknowledge and thank Lieutenant James Holt, Investigators Shanon Acquaviva and Dzenan Sabanovicand Police Officer Derek Schultz, Charles Parkosewich, Titus Ciccone, and Jimmy Dongsavanh for an outstanding job in preserving the man's life.

Williams says he's received several telephone compliments from citizens thanking his police officers for the outstanding job they did.
