The St. Patrick's Day Parade in Utica begins at 10:00 Saturday morning (3/9) at Oneida Square continuing north to Lafayette Street, and is the third largest in all of New York, according to its Grand Marshall - Utica Fire Chief Russ Brooks.

There will be more than 115 entries in this year's event, including fire departments, the Utica Zoo, girl scout troops and bands, says parade director Judy Weeks.

By coordinating the start time with other parades, for instance Syracuse, 'We get a lot more pipe bands,' because the same groups often perform at multiple parades in the state, Weeks said.

''Last year we lost four pipe bands because of a conflict with the New York City parade,'' Weeks said.

And don't forget if you're attending the parade, bring some canned food for Mother Marianne's West Side Kitchen.
