Ilion, NY (WIBX) -The proposed consolidation of three valley school districts, Ilion, Herkimer and Mohawk was given a "yes" vote, with voters in all three districts voting for consolidation. The final figures are 3,364 "yes" votes to 1,843 "no" votes.

Ilion Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra is pleased with the voter turnout, saying "Everyone who voted "yes" for this did so with some pain in their heart because of the school pride that they rightfully feel" adding, "They were able to look past that and look at what the benefits would be for the taxpayers and for the students".

There needs to be one more vote for this merger to become official, that vote happens October 18th. The final figures for each district were:

  • Herkimer 1,160 yes votes, 839 no votes
  • Ilion 1,274 yes votes, 589 no votes
  • Mohawk 930 yes votes, 415 no votes
