A sanitation worker was taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in the City of Rome.

State Police say a Bristols Trash and Recycling truck stopped alongside Williams Road to pick up recyclables at around 7-30 this morning.

While the truck was stopped, 45 year-old Randall Bristol, of Rome, stood alongside the vehicle to wave traffic around.

But, 33 year-old Benjamin Hughes, of Gouverneur, allegedly failed to see Bristol, striking him and the truck before coming to rest.

Bristol was taken to Saint Elizabeth's Hospital with knee, head and back injuries. Neither driver was injured.

State Police say the investigation is ongoing.
