A local hockey standout will be in uniform tonight for the Utica Comets as they host their preseason opener against the Binghamton Devils.

Gregg Burmaster is also a Utica College graduate who led the Pioneers in goals and assists last season. After a dramatic defeat in last year's UCHC conference tournament, Burmaster played briefly with the ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets. He's already under contract this season for another ECHL team, the Norfolk Admirals.

Burmaster proved to be a prolific scorer in his time with the Pioneers, earning First Team All-UCHC honors last season, to go along with a pair of UCHC All-Tournament Team selections. He posted 72 points in 55 games for UC.

The Comets held training camp at the Adirondack Bank Center this week and will be making final cuts in the coming days. After tonight's preseason tilt against the Devils, the two teams travel to Binghamton for a rematch tomorrow night.

The Utica Comets open the 2019-2020 season on the road at Binghamton next Saturday, October 5.
