In a move that would make it the biggest provider of cable television in the country, Comcast is expected to announce today that it is purchasing Time Warner Cable.

The all-stock deal is worth more than $44 billion and may be announced formally today.

Antitrust regulators will be charged with scrutinizing the deal that will enable Comcast to control cable content throughout the United States with a combined total of more than thirty million subscribers.

To alleviate concerns of regulators Comcast may offer to release holdings in some of its markets.
