Curtis Martin has to be a tough guy, right? He spent 11 seasons in the NFL taking hits from some of the biggest, meanest, roughest men on the planet. But the story behind Martin's tough upbringing as a child- from his father abusing his mother, the terrible deaths of his grandmother and aunt, and nearly being murdered himself - came as a shock to many fans of the five-time Pro-Bowl running back.

Martin was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio on Saturday night in an emotional 25-plus minute speech that touched on many childhood troubles and the fact that, until the day before his induction, Martin never considered himself a fan of football!

Martin said it was his local pastor who convinced him to use football as a means to accomplish his goals in life, and his mother's strength that inspired him.
