Jacob deGrom's MLB postseason debut couldn't have gone much better. The 27-year-old flame thrower outpitched three-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw, striking out 13 Dodgers over seven shutout innings as the New York Mets grabbed Game 1 of the NLDS by a 3-1 final in Los Angeles Friday night.

And, all within in that same performance, deGrom set the Mets' record for K's by pitcher making his first playoff start, and tied Tom Seaver for the franchise record for strikeouts in a playoff outing of any kind.

For his part, Kershaw had a great stuff himself, striking out eleven Mets. But, Daniel Murphy turned around a Kershaw pitch in the fourth for a solo-homer. Then, the Mets were able to manufacture two more runs, capped by a two-out, two-RBI single from David Wright in the seventh off reliever Pedro Baez. Both of those runs, though, were charged to Kershaw (0-1), whose postseason struggles continue. For such an accomplished lefty, he's now 1-6 with 4.99 ERA in the playoffs, compared to his career regular season mark of 114-56, 2.43.

Jeurys Familia picked up his first playoff save, getting the final out of the eighth and working a 1-2-3 ninth.

The Mets send rookie Noah Syndergaard (9-7, 3.24) to the mound in Game 2 on Sunday night, while the Dodgers counter with Zack Greinke (19-3, 1.66). First pitch is set for 9:07 p.m. on TBS.
