The Utica Comets saw their season come to an end on Thursday night, losing Game 4 of their opening round playoff series with the Albany Devils by a 6-3 final at the Utica Aud.

One year after winning a conference championship, Utica was unable to repeat the incredible postseason run that culminated with an appearance in the Calder Cup Finals. The Devils, who took the series 3-1, gained the upper hand early in Game 4 by jumping out to a 2-0 lead within in the game's first five minutes. Albany went on to build a 4-0 lead before Alexandre Grenier scored the Comets' first goal of the night, at the 16:33 mark of the second period. But before the period would end, Blake Pietila would add a shorthanded goal at the 19:30 mark to extend the Devils' lead to 5-1.

Grenier added an assist in the third period, while Alex Friesen (1-0-1) and T.J Hensick (1-0-1) each scored in the third to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Devils goalie Scott Wedgewood never let the game get any closer though, and Albany will now move on to the North Division finals to face the Toronto Marlies - who completed a sweep of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Thursday night.
