Utica-Notre Dame High School graduate Emily Durr had an off-shooting performance as her ninth-seeded Iowa State Cyclones were dumped by eighth-seed Syracuse in their opening round meeting of the Women's NCAA Tournament on Saturday.

Durr averaged 22.9 points per game in her Junior season but made only 1-of-12 from 3-point range on Saturday, and finished with 5 points on 2-of-13 shooting from the field. The Orange cruised to an 85-65 victory.

Meanwhile, Syracuse was led by three players who scored at least two dozen: Brittney Sykes (28), Alexis Peterson (25) and Gabby Cooper (24).

Seanna Johnson paced the Cyclones (18-13) with 21 points.

Syracuse (22-10) advances but will have the toughest of tasks. On Monday they face not only a one-seed, but the four-time defending national champions - Geno Auriemma and Connecticut.
