A parolee is facing multiple charges after police say he left his son in a park so that he could allegedly escape a drug arrest.

Fulton Police say that Matthew Merrill abandoned his five-year-old son near Voorhees Park when officers started talking with him after they received complaints that someone was selling drugs in the park.

While one officer waited with the child police pursued Merrill.  He was caught and arraigned in Fulton City Court.

Merrill was on parole after serving time for criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was released in March of 2015.
