Ilion, NY (WIBX) - A Liverpool man is behind bars for allegedly trying to rob the GPO Federal Credit Union in Ilion Monday morning.

Police say 33-year-old Paul Comforti entered the bank and passed the teller a note demanding money. Comforti, who was not armed, was grabbed by customer inside the bank and restrained until police arrived.

Officials also say Comforti drove to the bank in a vehicle that had been reported stolen from in the town of Clay.

He's charged with third degree robbery and is being held on $25,000 cash bail in the Herkimer County Correctional Facility.
