Utica NY, (WIBX) - The Masonic Care Community took time to honor the roughly 150 veterans who live and work at the campus today.

Among the residents is John Popeo, who was an infantry paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division from 1943 to 1945.

He was apart of the raid at Los Banos in the Philippines, helping rescue more than 2,100 prisoners of war.

Popeo says he earned three combat medals in three different battles and was wounded while fighting in the Philippines.

The Masonic Care Community has close to 150 residents and staff who are veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf Wars, Iraq and Afghanistan. Today's ceremony included patriotic songs and readings.
