Last week, the Federal Aviation Administration announced that the air traffic control tower at Griffiss International Airport in Rome would close,

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente says he's fighting to keep the tower open.

Picente says he met with major tenants at Griffiss to discuss every option available to make the transition from an FAA Control Tower to a tower that remains open without federal funding.

The Griffiss Control Tower is set to close at in late April due to Sequestration.
