An Australian Shepard mix dog which was found extremely emaciated last week in Camden has now died, according to officials with the Rome Humane Society.

'Lainey' was turned over to the care of the shelter weighing just 15 pounds. Normally, officials estimate she should have weighed about 45 - WKTV has a photo of the neglected pooch taken before her death.

Sarah Starczewski says it appears the dog named 'Lainey' took the brunt of a divorce - the couple split and there was a dispute over who the dog belonged to, and ultimately she was nearly starved to death before she was found.

Starczewski believes there will be an arrest in the case, but said the person who was supposed to care for her may only be charged with a misdemeanor.

She's also urging anyone who aware of animal neglect or abuse to contact their locate shelter or police department.
