Senator Charles Schumer is making a push for the FAA to select Griffiss International Airport as a test site for unmanned aerial systems(UAS).

Schumer is asking the FAA to chose the Griffiss-led NUAIR as one of six test sites for research on safely integrating unmanned aerial vehicles into U.S. airspace by 2015.

If NUAIR's application is accepted by the FAA, it would potentially bring jobs and millions of dollars in high-tech investment to the Oneida County-Mohawk Valley area.

The FAA announced in February that it would choose six test sites for unmanned aerial systems by the end of the year.
