Over $21,000 in federal funding is headed to the Schuyler Ambulance Company.

The funding was allocated through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighter's Grant program.

The company will use the money to buy new turnout gear, including coats, boots and helmets, for 15 of its active members.

Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the funding.

Schumer says the cost of fitting one person for firefighting turnout gear is about $2,500, making it very expensive for many departments to afford.
