Should New York State Education Commissioner John King resign?

King has cancelled appearances at Common Core forums around the state following a heated exchange at a forum in Whitesboro, New York.  Some have described that forum, the third organized by State Senator Joseph Griffo, as nothing short of "embarrassing" as parents, teachers, and administrators engaged in a yelling match.

State Senator James Seward is reacting to the cancellation of four forums scheduled after Whitesboro, saying that King should immediately reverse his decision and re-schedule the meetings.  One of the meetings was scheduled to take place in New Hartford on October 30, 2013.

Some say that the commissioner is now "failing to face the music about Common Core," despite presiding over the delivery of a curriculum about which many have concerns. Common Core has an equal number of supporters, who say that drastic measures are required to get New York students up to speed in the global marketplace.  The debate is certainly understandable.  Can the same be said about King's response?
