The Mets have called up Dilson Herrera from Triple-A Las Vegas as they look for ways to clean up the sloppy play that has plagued their infield in the opening month.

The 21-year-old will likely play second base and it's believe Terry Collins will shift Daniel Murphy to third, at least until David Wright is ready to return from his strained hamstring (15-day DL since April 15), Mets.com reports. Murphy - whose been charged with four errors in 23 games at second base and made several other suspect defensive plays - does have some experience at third.

It's also possible Herrera could see some time at shortstop, where Wilmer Flores has made six errors in 20 games.

However Collins plays it, you can expect Eric Campbell to hit the bench and see most of his plate appearances as a pinch hitter, at least for now. In 15 games filling in for Wright on the hot corner, Campbell has hit just .220 and made three errors in the field. While he may offer the same or slightly better defense that Murphy, don't expect the Mets to pull Murph's suddenly hot bat out of the lineup.

The call to Herrera is being done for defensive improvement, by the prospect's bat has also been hot in the desert. In 20 game with the 51's, the Colombian-born Herrera was hitting .370 with 18 runs scored and 11 RBIs.

Herrera played 18 games with the big league club at the end of 2014; he hit .220 with three homers and 11 RBIs.
