Albany, NY - New York State paid nearly $440-million in overtime to state workers in 2010, according to the "Daily News."

The report found that in some cases, state employees doubled their salary because of overtime work. Some of that overtime was due to staffing concerns.

New York State laid off about 900 state workers last month as a cost savings, expected to save about 250-million dollars in 2011. Union leaders say the need for overtime pay is another reason the staet should squash the planned layoffs.

This week, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced he would be cutting his own pay, and that of his top aides, by 5%.
