Teacher Whose Car Overturned Into Erie Canal Dies
The Chittenango Middle School teacher who lost control of her SUV and overturned into the Erie Canal has died at University Hospital In Syracuse.
The Madison County Sheriff's office says 48-year old Colleen Hyland of Oneida was trying to avoid a crash in front of her when her vehicle struck a canal bridge abutment.
It plunged ten-feet before it landed on its roof in nearly three-feet of water
The accident happened yesterday morning on Harsh Road in the Town of Sullivan.
Hyland was a 7th grade social studies teacher.
